RE: 2007 Keystone Cougar Exit Window Blowout

This happened to me also. It was the bedroom window (in a 5er) so I could not see it flapping while towing. It has come loose a few times before, but I have been with friends that let me know before any damage was done. This was a giant hassle to fix. The trailer manufacturer would not order me one because I was not a dealer. The dealer said it would take 6-8 weeks. The trailer manufacturer said the window vendor was no longer in business. I had to order a custom window and it cost over $600 (including installation). I ordered a regular sliding window instead of the emergency window (it was $50 more). Insurance paid for all but my $75 deductible (including new blinds that also were destroyed).I put a small c-clamp (easy to knock off in an emergency) on the handle of the other emergency window so this doesn't happen to that one.

RE: Wanted: Indoor Storage in SoCal Area Code 562 or 714

I store my trailer at a place that has indoor storage (I use the outdoor part). There are lots of very nice class A's and some stackers stored there. Brea RV Storage, 714-447-9395

RE: Non-commercial Class A

I agree with all about the weight sticker on the trailer and the requirement for a non-c class A based on that. But,,I do not understand how anyone could be ticketed for being overweight. The only thing I can think of is weighing the load on each truck tire and maybe ticketing based on the load being over the max weight stamped on the tire. That could be deemed as unsafe. Also, the weight and fine table posted above::: That appears to be the fine schedule for vehicles commercially tagged (door tag) and claimed gross weight (like the F450's are supposed to be) because they are not deemed "pickups". I'm not sure about that, but it appears like the table I saw when I registered my F450, and convinced me to claim the max weight, and pay the max weight fee (like about 700 bucks).

RE: Non-commercial Class A

I had the same impression as fly-boy. The CHP could not cite you for being overweight, but could for driving out of class. How does the CHP know what the truck's capacity is, besides the sticker, which is only a manufacturer's suggestion and does not take modifications into account. Ford just increased their F450's towing rating for 4.30 geared trucks without changing a thing.

RE: Eclipse Attitude/Stellar

I have an 07 37' 5th wheel Stellar. I've owned it for almost 2 years and at least 20 desert trips and 2 long (2000 mile plus) vacations. There were several QC issues when I took delivery. Some were fixed by the dealer and some I fixed. The genrac generator gave me some grief but all is fine now. The frame and running gear seams very good. All heavy duty. After everything's said, I would buy another one. The price is good and I really like the wrap around windows in the wall/ceiling in the new models.

RE: F450's owners

Ditto here.. I used to pull my 17k lb 5th wheel with my F250. Never had any towing related issues,,but I was overweight. Now I am underweight and feel much better and I'm undoubtedly safer for me and others on the road. I love my F450,,mileage and all

RE: I have had it with my generac generator!!

code3run Sorry to hear you are still having problems with your genrac. The oil temp switch fixed mine, that had the same symptoms. I would think the service center would swap out your generator. They were were very good to me,,but mine was fixed with that sensor. I also ran the generator for 60 minutes with both ACs and my poirtable heater going while it was still at the service center before I accepted it was probably fixed. I know, there is nothing worse than needing your generator in the desert,,,and it doesn't work.

RE: California Registration/Lic Fees On Your Trucks?

Hey Sandman I don't put the stickers on the door, they're in my glovebox. I don't stop at scales. My reg is due in December. I am going to try to lower the weight on my reg to the minimum (15k?). I really didn't know what I was doing when I filled out the registration form at the dealer last year. I guess the only risk is being pulled over and weighed..which I think is very low. Later Randy sandman said:::: $750... reg'd unladen @ ~8900lbs. You stickered at 26k? Do you run your stickers on the doors? Stop at scales? Just curious...

RE: Feedback on Attitude trailers

I've had my 37' Stellar 5th wheel for almost 2 years. I had a few issues when it was new but all were fixed. I have found a few places where they really used cheap materials, but nowhere in the infrastructure. I would seriously consider a buying another one.

RE: F450's owners

I have an 08 F450 Lariat 4X4. I use it to tow a 38' 17k lb toyhauler and I love it. It's very stable and you will love the way it can turn. My mileage is about what everyone else is saying. I rarely use it except for towing the trailer. I get about 7-8 MPG. 4.33 gears.

RE: Did it, 37 foot Attitude. updated w/ pics

We have a 37' Stellar. Bought jan last year. mostly happy with it. I think the armour package looks very nice and unique. I wish it was available when I got mine. Good Luck

RE: Can we ease up on the horns and learn how to turn it off?

It seems pretty petty to complain about a little horn chirp and elitist/snobby to exclaim no one would want to steal their econoboxes. I can't stand it when these overblown class As have to honk their overblown horns when they arrive and leave a campground,,,but I get over it in a second and get back to enjoying life.

Ford F450 and CA Comercial Vehicle Registration

I bought a new F450 in January. I had to register as a commercial vehicle because my truck weighed more than 9,000 lbs (I can't remember the exact weight, but IT was close to 9k). This is not the commercial registration you have to do for all pickups, but this one has weight fees for your maximum truck & trailer weight (GCVW??) and it's expensive!. They also send you a weight sticker you are supposed to put on the truck's front doors. My dealer said Ford and other entities are trying to get this law repealed. I have not heard anything about this since I bought my truck. Does anyone have any new information, or more precise information than I stated?

RE: Fifth Wheel Backing Up

I have a crew cab but nothing else to obstruct my view of the hitch. But, I have found, like a previous poster, that using the rear view mirror solves my problems of backing straight on the king pin every time, first time. Since the rear view mirror is pretty high, it might be able to see over your tool box, or cover too. just a thought.

RE: Buying a Ford F450???

You should be able to get a better deal now, at least employee pricing. I used the X Plan and got about 5k off from incentives which was about 8-9k off MSRP, and this was in December. You should be able to do beter now.

RE: Thinking About Upgrading From F-350 SRW to F-450

I have an 08 F450 that I use to pull my 17k lb 5th wheel. I love it. 1. My buddy had a hard time finding a insurance company that would insure a F-450 without having a commercial insurance policy. This is way more expensive than a F-350. Anyone else heard of that? ANSWER, I had no problems insuring. (GMAC Ins) 2. I don't really want a DRW because of the added hassle but the 5th-wheel towing capacity is much better (18,000/19,000). DRW's really aren't good in the snow with out a set of chains either. ANSWER: I moved from a SRW short bed F250 to the F450. There is no added hassle with the DRW. I got the off-road package and the tires look like they would do well in the snow. BTW, I would never have another short bed again either. 3, Here in Colorado, we have seriously "grooved" roads and I hear the DRW's really don't track well - any thoughts? ANSWER: I have not had this problem 4. The F-450 only comes in 4.30 or 4.88 rear ends - I am not pulling all the time, do you think the 4.30 will be sufficient? ANSWER: I have 4:30 gears and no problems pulling the trailer 5. Anyone who has a '08 F-350/F-450 - what are you getting for empty/towing mpg's? I hear they are real "thirsty" and when you ask someone at the filling station, they all say 16-19 empty - i think they are lying. Most posting sights are saying 9.0 empty and 6.0 towing. Any thoughts??? ANSWER: Here's the bad part. 10MPG empty 6-7 towing

where to buy replacement windows for 5er

One of my windows (the emergency exit kind) opened up while I was traveling and eventually broke off. Where can I buy a replacement? The dealer says it will take 2 months and the manufacturer says it will not sell to private parties. I want to replace it with a non-emergency sliding window. Thanks
